bid writing

This is an unprecedented time and public funding into research, development and innovation is available to support businesses and organisations, in addition to other COVID-19 business resilience support being offered by the government.

Our bid writing support service is available to any Dorset-based organisation thinking about applying for funding.

As a key part of the Dorset Gateway’s business support offer, this service is fully-funded and is aimed at supporting high-potential/high-growth organisations looking to apply for funding that will help to meet the challenges set-out in Dorset’s Local Industrial Strategy and the UK's modern Industrial Strategy

Who is the service for?
Applications are welcome from a range of applicant types (e.g. SMEs, universities, start-ups). Our guiding principles for support are as follows:

  • Alignment with the grand challenges and foundations for growth in the UK’s modern Industrial Strategy and aims and objectives of Dorset’s Local Industrial Strategy;
  • Can demonstrate that the subject/focus of the bid will lead to increased productivity or growth of a business.

Requirements to use the service

  • You will need to provide a UK registered company number, with a Dorset registered address.
  • Evidence of market need for the innovation - i.e. letter of support from industry/relevant sector.
  • Evidence of secured match-funding, if this is a requirement of a funding competition.

What we offer
Dorset Gateway's bid writing support service includes access to a highly-qualified bid writing specialist. So that we can utilise this resource effectively, we have categorised the level of support on offer in the following ways:

  • High-growth SMEs that either meet the definition of being a scale-up business or that are on route to becoming a scale-up business can access both the writing, and check & edit services for up two applications split into up to 20 hours of support each. This will entail support on drafting the body document and providing guidance on the appendices.
  • Early-stage businesses and start-ups (less than 2 years in operation) can be provided with guidance from the bid writing support service, a framework for completing the application and a comprehensive application check and edit service with up to 16 hours support available. This will help ensure that the application you have written meets a funder's criteria and make suggestions about how you might strengthen it.
  • Previous or current Innovate UK grants recipients will be able to access up to 20 hours or support similar to that offered for high-growth SMEs.

Dorset LEP reserves the right to operate outside of these terms.

What we ask in return
Dorset LEP will publicise in its newsletters and over social media all successful bids that supports and the values of those applications, unless a specific application is agreed in advance as being too commercially sensitive and/or not to be reported in the public domain. The publicity will outline how Dorset Gateway was involved in the support of the successful application/s and will also mention any partners involved.
