Dorset LEP is pleased to appoint small business owner Sara Uzzell as Deputy Chair of its board of directors.
A member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing for more than 25 years, Sara Uzzell has spent her career in marketing and business development. As Deputy Chair she will help to oversee Dorset LEP’s £234 million programme to boost local economic growth and prosperity.
Sara joined the Dorset LEP board in 2016 and chairs the steering group for Dorset LEP’s Growing Places Fund, a £9.7m revolving loan scheme to support housing and job creation in Dorset. She is also an active board member of Dorset Tourism Association.
Commenting on her deputy chair appointment, Sara said “I am delighted to be playing a greater role in helping Dorset LEP to achieve its economic ambitions for Dorset. I am passionate about supporting the local business community and promoting our region's success stories.
“I will be championing the message to government that Dorset has huge ambition, that we are confident in our outlook and that we have the plans in place to build a more productive, vibrant and better-connected Dorset.
“We are in a competition for government funding so it is vital that Dorset stands out as a place with excellent prospects for economic development. I am looking forward to assisting the Chair with the development of the Local Industrial Strategy for Dorset which will show how we intend to achieve our growth plans and transform the economy. "
Sara has first-hand experience of the excitement and achievements of running a small business as well as the challenges and frustrations. Before moving to Bournemouth 15 years ago she held several senior executive positions in the software and services sector in London. Since then she owned a successful hotel, hospitality and tour operator business, which was sold in 2018. She is currently setting up a new marketing business.
Earlier this week, Sara joined business women from organisations across the country at the LEP Network Women Leaders’ Roundtable to discuss attracting more women business leaders onto LEP boards and encouraging more diversity.

Sara’s extensive business experience and insight will be a valuable asset in assisting with the strategic oversight of Dorset LEP’s activity, decision-making, and future direction. The role of Dorset LEP has expanded immensely since its inception in 2014 and with recent strengthened commitment from government our remit is likely to grow even further making the role of deputy chair an exciting and dynamic one.”
