View across the Dorset countryside towards the coast

Dorset LEP is seeking new private sector board directors to help lead Dorset into a brighter future. We are looking for business people who share a passion for the future of the region’s economy and want to share their skills and experience to make a difference to Dorset’s prosperity.

We are building a vision where everyone living, working and studying in Dorset will be living better, and to create a local economy that is sustainable, innovative, resilient and inclusive, achieved by leading a digital and cultural transformation using opportunities from new technologies.

The exciting opportunity to join Dorset LEP is open to business leaders who can bring a depth of experience aligned to our strategic aims and who are able to make an active contribution to our work, strengthening our role as the main thought-leader influencing economic development in Dorset and deliver the area’s Local Industrial Strategy. As a board member you will be a director of Dorset LEP, making decisions in driving investment into Dorset.

Working with Dorset LEP brings with it a wealth of opportunities to really make a difference in Dorset, through:

  • Influencing policy and spending decisions that will make it easier for businesses to grow, attracting investment into Dorset and creating jobs for local people
  • Promoting Dorset’s strengths, assets and diversity to a regional, national and international audience
  • Shaping priorities to have the biggest impact on growth and jobs across the region
  • Using proven skills, experience and ideas to take on a new professional challenge and develop new relationships
  • Enhancing the growth and prosperity of Dorset.

It is expected that in becoming a member of Dorset LEPs’ Board, candidates will:

  • Bring their expertise, knowledge, leadership and skills to ensure strategies and programmes of activity reflect the needs of local business and communities
  • Be an ambassador for the values and goals of Dorset LEP and promote the region as a great place to work, live and do business
  • Attend bi–monthly board and committee meetings across Dorset, as well as provide occasional support with media interviews, promotional activity and events, to the equivalent of approximately two days per month
  • Live or work in Dorset
  • Be committed to serve for a term of three years with the option to renew for a further term dependent on circumstances.

Dorset’s economy is diverse with big and small businesses across all sectors based in urban and rural areas.

We want our board to reflect the vast diversity of Dorset and welcome applications from everyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability. Recruitment is through an open and transparent process.
