B3073 Parley West 

The B3073 is an important link road between Christchurch and Wimborne. Funding was awarded for the development of a feasibility study to explore design and costs for construction of a Western Link Road to ease congestion and unlock housing at Parley Cross junction, a key access point to Bournemouth Airport and Aviation Park.

Outputs: 

Dorset County Council was awarded £30,000 to deliver a feasibility study to develop design and cost estimate for the Western Link Road which will be constructed to ease congestion and unlock housing at Parley Cross.  

Outcomes: 

The delivery of the Western Link Road aims to deliver the following outcomes: 

  • Alleviate traffic congestion and increase capacity along the B3073 corridor and specifically in the vicinity of the Parley Cross junction  
  • Increase sustainable transport journeys through the junctions, along the new link roads and along the B3073 corridor by providing improved cycling and walking facilities
  • Improve access to the airport and Aviation Business Park and the delivery of 500+ dwellings around Parley Cross.   

BIG Programme Outcomes:

  • Transform accessibility to and around Bournemouth Airport and Wessex Fields through extensive transport improvements.
  • Release up to 40 hectares of prime, flexible employment land for high-quality new business premises at Aviation Business Park and Wessex Fields.
  • Provide the single largest employment opportunity in the south-east Dorset conurbation with the potential to create around 4,000 new highly skilled jobs over the next decade.
  • Generate up to £100 million of GVA into the area.
  • Deliver around 700 new homes.
