Project Status - Completed

  • Start Date: November 2019
  • End Date: March 2021
  • Local Growth Fund allocation: £695,000
  • Awarded to: Weymouth College

Project Summary:

Weymouth College underwent a refurbishment to establish a Centre of Excellence for Engineering, following the College's Centre of Excellence for Motor Vehicle Technology.

Dorset LEP allocated  £695,000 of Local Growth Funding to pay for new machinery and a new IT infrastructure to serve approximately 160 students per year.

The works vastly improved advanced engineering teaching capabilities by paying for state-of-the-art equipment. Plans include a new digital media suite, allowing students to develop computer-aided-design and modelling skills.

The funding also enabled the college to develop three new fully fitted welding bays, electric welding apparatus and sufficient safety equipment, benefitting an additional 25 students and five apprentices by 2024/25.
