COVID-19 response

Dorset LEP COVID-19 Action

COVID-19 has had an impact on the lives of those living in Dorset in every way imaginable and has exposed the fragility that this type of crisis can present to business resilience and stability. It has also created opportunities for skills development and approaches to business delivery and operations across the region.

Throughout the pandemic we have listened to Dorset’s business and education communities, evolved our offerings to support these groups, put in place new initiatives, made investment decisions and compiled a series of recommendations to government to inform recovery action in response to the impacts of COVID-19 on Dorset’s economy.

The Dorset LEP COVID-19 Recovery Action and Recommendations to Government booklet outlines the impact COVID-19 has had, and continues to have, on Dorset's economy, the action Dorset LEP has taken so far, our future actions and the recommendations we have made to government.

We aim to emerge with a stronger, adaptable and more resilient industry in Dorset than before this pandemic.

COVID-19 research: Impact and recovery

We have also undertaken a COVID-19 Impacts and Recovery analysis of the economic impact of COVID-19 in Dorset to develop our understanding of the mechanisms by which the pandemic will affect our economy. This analysis includes the risk and resilience factors that will drive local economic outcomes, and how these could play out in Dorset relative to pre-COVID-19 baseline assumptions and comparator geographies.

This analysis helps us understand the medium and longer-term implications of the COVID-19 crisis for key business sectors, clusters and sub-geographies, including the challenges and the opportunities and to identify potential for local action and influence over outcomes. It also offers reassurance that our strategic objectives as outlined in the Dorset Local Industrial Strategy are still correct. This analysis has helped us identify the priority topics on which to focus to help speed up recovery.
