The Department for International Trade's (DIT) Export Support Service is the place to start if you're new to exporting. It's a digital dashboard of resources to help get you up and running with overseas trade to make informed choices on where best to sell the goods or services you offer.

If you're new to it, trading overseas can feel like navigating a minefield.  DIT's Export Support Service is the digital one-stop shop to help you educate yourself, understand how it all works and get help and advice from their experts.

Through the Learn how to Export modules you'll discover how to:

  • Identify opportunities and research potential markets - including how to research and choose destination markets, evaluating opportunities, calculating customer demand and competitor analysis.

  • Prepare to sell into a new country - including exploring routes to market, understanding business cultures, managing intellectual property and legal protection risk, winning bids and how to make the most of tradeshows, digital and e-commerce.
  • Regulations, licensing and logistics - including labelling and packaging, duties and taxes, local market regulations, commodity codes and rules of origin. Other topics include logistics, understanding rules, regulations, customs declarations and export licensing.
  • Funding, financing and getting paid - including managing cash flow, getting paid, exchange rates and moving money.
