  • Start Date: October 2020
  • End Date: March 2021
  • Local Growth Fund allocation: £124,400
  • Awarded to: Arts University Bournemouth (AUB)

Project Summary

The Innovation Resources project has used £124,400 in Dorset LEP Local Growth Fund allocation and £45,000 in Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) match funding to provide students and Dorset businesses with free remote access to a suite of digital resources and physical fabrication equipment (machinery which can perform cutting or scanning for example) to be housed in the Innovation Suite within the Innovation Studio, two other Dorset LEP projects at AUB.

The project will allow Dorset businesses to upskill staff and perform rapid product prototyping in a sustainable and cost-effective way.

Remote access to these specialist resources addresses the challenge of supporting rural businesses in Dorset and those in deprived areas such as Weymouth and Portland. The project also addresses the current challenge of supporting students and businesses during COVID-19 which restricts physical gathering.

The Innovation Resources project introduced the final wave of resources in July 2021.

Predicted outcomes:

  • 20 jobs created/safeguarded
  • 70 New learners assisted (full qualification)
  • 260 New courses created
  • 11 New business start ups
  • 50 Enterprises receiving non-financial support
  • £2.76m GVA by FY 2025, £7.2m by FY 2027
