10th National Apprenticeship week

The 10th National Apprenticeship Week starts Monday 6th March 2017; it brings together employers and apprentices from across England to celebrate the success of apprenticeships over the last decade and will seek to encourage even more people to choose apprenticeships as a fast-track to a great career.

Why take on an apprentice?

The benefits of apprenticeships and traineeships are becoming increasingly obvious to more and more businesses. It’s a fact that apprenticeships develop a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce. Businesses that offer apprenticeships view them as beneficial to their long-term development. According to the British Chambers of Commerce, most employ an apprentice to improve the skills base within their business.

What is the Apprenticeship Levy?

In spring 2017 the way the government funds apprenticeships in England is changing. Some employers will be required to contribute to a new apprenticeship levy, and there will be changes to the funding for apprenticeship training for all employers.

The apprenticeship levy comes in on 6th April 2017. The levy requires all employers operating in the UK, with a pay bill over £3 million each year, to invest in apprenticeships. Guidance on how the apprenticeship levy will work including the principles that apprenticeship funding will operate on from 1 May 2017, whether you pay the levy or not is available on the Gov.uk website
