At the Cornerstone of Careers Education

At the Cornerstone of Careers Education

Dorset employers are joining forces with the Dorset Careers Hub to prepare young people in the county for the world of work.

Dorset Careers Hub, the first of its kind to be established in the region, launched earlier this month to work with 40 local schools and colleges, thanks to Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (Dorset LEP), The Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC), BCP Council and Dorset Council.

Following the Dorset Career Hub launch, a newly formed group known as Cornerstone Employers met to discuss their crucial leadership role for the Dorset Careers Hub. The role of the Cornerstone Employers is to act as champions to encourage new organisations to get involved in offering sustainable support, as well as encouraging their own staff to volunteer as ‘Enterprise Advisers’.

Those organisations which have already committed to working collaboratively as part of Dorset’s Cornerstone Employer community reflect the priority sectors in the region, and include ASM SMT Solutions, Bournemouth Marriott Hotel, Dorset Council, JP Morgan, NHS Dorset, Redweb and Superior Seals.

As part of the commitment, these companies will invest time and resources to open doors to workplaces and create inspiring opportunities for young people that will help them make informed career choices.

Rich Maidment, Talent Director at award-winning digital agency Redweb shared: “We’re thrilled to work with Dorset Careers Hub to ensure all young people across the region have access to the support and employer engagement opportunities they need to help make informed choices about their futures”.

Matt Prosser, Chief Executive, Dorset Council, said: “We are delighted to be a Cornerstone Employer and to show our commitment to help young people in Dorset prepare and be inspired for the fast-changing world of work.”

Dorset Careers Hub comes as part of a second wave of Careers Hubs across the country, backed by a £2.5 million CEC investment to encourage best career education practice locally.
