BCP Cultural Recovery Survey

BCP Council Cultural Recovery Survey

Following the completion of the BCP Council Cultural Enquiry an action group has been formed to examine the ways in which a cultural future for the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole community can be developed.

It is recognised that this takes place in a setting where COVID-19 and measures to stem the spread of coronavirus is having a major impact on arts institutions and cultural activity more generally. BCP Council's Cultural Action Group is focussing on three areas – Cultural Recovery, Cultural Priorities and Cultural Engagement – with the intention of developing the existing cultural infrastructure, actioning new forms of engagement and supporting activity in the current challenging circumstances.

BCP Council are now inviting feedback via a short online survey. The survey intends to enable people working in the creative industries, with a focus on activity with the public, to contribute to a shared recovery process.

We encourage you to fill out the survey to help our local arts and culture sector recover: https://form.jotform.com/201484531844051

Deadline 10 June 2020.

There is huge opportunity for those working in culture to collaborate and support each other as Dorset comes out of lockdown and into the next phase of what culture will look like with social distancing and beyond.

The survey invites a range of individuals and organisations to share their plans for coming out of lockdown and contribute to a shared communication to the public about what cultural opportunities there are for them and how safety will be kept as a core principle. Engaging with audiences and letting them know how BCP Council can take care of them will be really important as we slowly return to public gatherings.

The results of the survey will be available at www.bcpculturalcollective.org.uk and be used to create a picture of which parts of the cultural ecology hope to unlock when and where there is particular need to action to collaborate or support activity.

Darren Henley, Chief Executive of Arts Council England concludes:“Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Councils have an exceptional track record of investing in art and culture, which can be seen through the superb range of creative work produced in the region.

The forthcoming local government reorganisation presents a unique chance for culture to be put at the heart of this coastal region’s strategy and further develop its sense of place. We’re proud to be supporting this long-term vision for the new unitary authority and we look forward to seeing the recommendations made, for the future prosperity of BCP.”
