Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership is working with Career and Enterprise Company to develop a Dorset wide Enterprise Adviser Network. The Network has received support and funding from Purbeck District Council, Dorset County Council, Poole and Bournemouth Borough Councils, and the Dorset Councils Partnership.
Its purpose is to create powerful, lasting connections between local businesses and the schools and colleges in their area. The network is intended to inspire and motivate young people and support them to make informed choices about their future.
Dorset LEP is looking for high calibre volunteers from senior positions in business to work directly with the senior leadership team in secondary schools and colleges to support more effective connection to the world of work and develop, shape or add value to the school or college’s careers, enterprise and employer engagement strategy.
They also work with other local businesses to equip young people with the skills they need.
What makes an effective Enterprise Adviser?
An Enterprise Adviser should be:
- Passionate about unlocking the potential and enhancing the future prospects of young people
- Committed to supporting a school or college for one academic year
- Credible with the leadership team of a school or college
- Well connected within local business networks
What is involved in being an Enterprise Adviser?
As an Enterprise Adviser, you will:
- Commit 8 hours per month for one academic year
- Work in partnership with the senior leadership team of a local school or college to develop an employer-led careers strategy for the students
- Put your professional experience and existing networks to use by engaging them with the school or college
- Network with other Enterprise Advisers to share careers activity best practices to help raise standards on a national scale
How are Enterprise Advisers supported?
Enterprise Advisers are supported by:
- A full-time Enterprise Coordinator from the local community to guide and support you. We have two in Dorset, Catherine Beater covering Bournemouth & Poole and Robert Firth covering the rest of Dorset.
- Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) skills policy manager, Tony Nelson who will give an overview of the skills landscape in Dorset
- Reference guides and toolkits containing evidence-based strategies to assist you in your conversations
- Initial induction and regular training
- Invitations to national Careers & Enterprise Company events
