Super Connect Series returns to Bournemouth

National tech initiative, Super Connect Series, returns to Bournemouth

Global Entrepreneurship Week sees national tech initiative Super Connect Series return to Bournemouth on Wednesday 20 November 2019 as part of a road show covering 12 cities across the UK and Ireland.

Dorset LEP is proud to sponsor the event, Super Connect Bournemouth for MedTech & AI, run by Dorset-based Empact Ventures in partnership with Hays and co-sponsored by CityFibre and UnLtd.

This event will introduce tech start-ups and scale-ups to decision-makers from private and public sector organisations so they can explore funding support and potential collaborations.

Super Connect Bournemouth takes place at Bournemouth University’s Talbot Campus from 09.00-16.00, and builds on three previous successful events held in Dorset earlier this year working with the Dorset Engineering and Manufacturing Cluster, as well as pilots in Bristol, London, Cambridge and Leeds.

Dorset LEP’s Business Engagement & Dorset Gateway Manager, Finn Morgan, said: “Dorset LEP’s role is to promote and drive local economic growth across Dorset. Working with partners to develop opportunities supporting innovative and ambitious businesses to succeed is of vital importance to us. MedTech and CareTech is emerging as a key area in Dorset’s emerging Local Industrial Strategy and the Super Connect Bournemouth event is a great opportunity to hear from, and engage with, a range of businesses in the region – as well as those from outside of the Dorset business ecosystem – about their plans for business growth."

Kosta Mavroulakis, Empact Ventures’ Founder and CEO said: “Bournemouth has the potential to become an established tech cluster in the next decade beyond its strong digital roots. Our team is working from here to showcase its pockets of excellence, and super connect it to the wider global tech ecosystem to create new business development, innovation sourcing and/or investment opportunities for all involved.”

Martin Pardey, Business Director at Hays said: “We have been delighted to co-host a number of pitch days in conjunction with Empact Ventures. These events are incredibly well received by the business community and are a fantastic opportunity for Hays to show that we are at the heart of the local tech ecosystem, as well as showcase how we can have a positive impact on helping people and businesses to grow. We’re able to work with start-ups by giving insightful advice and guidance at the early stages of their growth, as well as add value to a number of our innovation-focused clients by giving them access to a relevant pool of start-up businesses already providing tech solutions to the problems they are trying to solve themselves.

Rachel Clarke, Knowledge Exchange Advisor at BU said: “Medical technology is a strength of BU and we know the importance of supporting initiatives that generate collaborations and bring together key players in this area, so we’re delighted to support this event.”
