Committee Member opportunities

We are looking for new members to join our new Skills, Strategic Infrastructure, Overview & Scrutiny and  Finance, Audit & Risk committees.

Local Enterprise Partnerships play an instrumental role in bringing business and public sector organisations together to develop infrastructure plans and economic strategies, which aim to improve industrial performance and employment prospects for local communities.

Our committees at Dorset LEP strive to improve opportunities for businesses and spread the mandate for steering investment across Dorset - identifying key investment opportunities and interventions with the potential to increase growth in both urban and rural areas across the county. The challenge is to make a difference to the effectiveness of business and the lives of local residents.

We are looking for key individuals working in organisations in the region with analytical skills and a working knowledge of the local area to join our five committees. Applicants must have an understanding of their business needs (for trained staff or inward investment) in order to inform the development of Dorset LEP’s understanding. Members are asked to commit the equivalent of three days per year to attend meetings, so this role will not be a significant time commitment, however, the potential benefit you could bring to Dorset can be immense – in investment, skills, training and new infrastructure.

The committee groups we need expertise in are:

  • Skills Advisory Board – to assist in identifying business needs going forwards
  • Strategic Infrastructure – property, building, digital expertise, transport
  • Overview & Scrutiny – to improve processes and support decision making
  • Finance, Audit & Corporate Risk – financial skills and risk management
  • Business Growth & Inward Investment - to facilitate growth of business via funding.

A simple CV will set the process off, we have a job description and role profiles to assist you in making the decision to take a step forwards with us! Full details and terms are included within our recruitment pack - please send a CV and cover letter to David Lawrence, Dorset LEP Governance & Operations,

The closing date for applications is 31 October 2019.

We want to increase the diversity of our board and are particularly keen to hear from female business leaders and from those with protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010.

Please note, committee positions are not remunerated although reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed and all expense claims will be published in line with the board expense policy.
